What is Linux, you ask? Great question!
Linux is an Operating System (OS) similar to Windows, with almost all the same features but faster, less cluttered, and more user-friendly.
What makes it different?
- More secure: Linux requires password security to download new files and programs
- Open-source: Linux isn’t owned by a brand like Microsoft or Apple, but rather is an open-source system, which means it’s created to allow users to use and modify the system in any way they see fit, so you aren’t tied to Windows or iOS.
- Computer reboot: When you have an older computer or laptop, new software updates are often not able to be downloaded, but the current versions don’t work. With Linux, you can reboot old computers and laptops by downloading a different operating system to help it run!
- The Terminal: Want more control over your user-interface? Linux allows you to edit the entirety of the OS through the “terminal.”
What is Tails OS?
Note: This is Version 4.4
This is a linux distribution that forces all traffic through the TOR browser. The Tor browser essentially allows you to be anonymous on the internet. If you need COMPLETE anonymity when browsing the internet, this is the perfect OS distribution for you.
Any non-anonymous connections are completely blocked, meaning you will not have to worry about whether the security measures are being applied. It also does not leave a trace on the computer it is being booted on, ensuring your privacy in the case someone else gains access to that computer.
There are tons of tutorials that you can find on the internet that will teach you how to use these tools.
